Breaking news

The French are now rehearsing, and they're making fine use of their vote-grabbing asset below. He shamelessly rips his shirt off and engages in some dance action, before returning to the mic stand. I can't recall a shirtless backing singer at Eurovision before, but he has the torso for it. My only complaint is that he isn't on camera enough. Come on NRK, sort it out!

Sacre bleu!

Of course, dear reader, you want to hear all the buzz from rehearsals and parties here in the land of Eurovisionia. However, I am too busy staring at this photo, which my friend, the lovely John Stanton, allowed me to take on his camera last night after my phone had battery death.

In the unofficial Hunks of Eurovision contest, here is last night's New Entry, straight in at number one, out of nowhere and fresh off a plane at the Russian party. We had no warning that such a vision of hunkiness would be turning up - and I suddenly like the French entry (ooh, madam!) a whole lot more. He's a backing singer for France's Jessy Matador. In the sad and lonely World of Chig, there are many totty points available for any of the following on a man:

1) short hair
2) a white vest
3) interesting tattoos
4) being French

A combination of all four sends my tottymeter into overdrive, so now I must go for a 'lie down'. Enjoy!

Eurovision 2008 - Chig's 14th favourite song

France - 'Divine' - Sébastien Tellier

It will be interesting to see on Saturday and Sunday how this is presented on stage. I do love it, out of a Eurovision context, but find it hard to predict how this will go down until we've seen it. The video's great though:

Christ on a keyboard!

It's not Jesus, trying to persuade the UPS courier that his piano really will fit on the back of a motorbike when it's wrapped.

No, this son of Supertramp is France's Eurovision entrant, revealed today. He is Sébastien Tellier. His latest album, Sexuality, is number one en France (according to ESC Today). (It was released here in the UK last week.) It already includes his Eurovision song, 'Divine', which is utterly fantastic and brings the genre of 'summery electropop with Beach Boys harmonies' to Eurovision for the first time. This is produced by half of Daft Punk, hence the leather-clad creature in the picture. It might even bring France some mid-table respectability and you have to respect someone whose current single is called 'Sexual Sportswear'. He told Popjustice all about his sportswear fetish here. Vive la France!

Here is 'Divine' (with an unofficial video):

It's also on Sébastien's Tellier's MySpace page. I'm intrigued to know what you think. He seems to be a sort of Jean-Michel Jarre for the modern age. We haven't been down this particular rue électronique before.

No, this doesn't count. Any excuse though:

Hello Dolly (or is it Dewi?)

The thing about stereotypes is that they're usually based in truth, so was anyone surprised to hear that one of the Welsh rugby players, at the World Cup in France, has been found with a real live sheep in his hotel room? Dwayne Peel (left) is the player concerned. This has caused enormous shame and a great deal of embarrassment, but apparently the sheep has said she'll get over it.

(See also the last question here.)

World of Chig has secured an exclusive photo of guests arriving for the Welsh team's post-match party last Sunday:

Le rugby commence!

Bienvenue en France pour la coupe du monde de rugby, qui commence aujourd'hui.

Actually, this Frenchman was in Cardiff last weekend for the Mardi Gras rugby tournament, not in Paris for today's Rugby World Cup opener. He wore that fluffy Tour Eiffel quite a lot.

Forty-eight international rugby matches between today and 20 October. (Yes, October!) Marvellous. Allez les rosbifs!
